Florida Statute 960.001 describes the rights of victims of crime in Florida.
As a victim of crime you have legal rights, including the right to:
- Be informed, be present and be heard at all stages of criminal proceedings to the extent that these rights do not interfere with the rights of the accused and to be advised as to your participation in these proceedings.
- Receive advance notification when possible of judicial proceedings and scheduling changes in accordance with Florida Statute 960.001.
- Seek restitution and victim compensation.
- Consult with the State Attorneys office in certain felony cases regarding the disposition of the case.
- Make an oral or written impact statement to the court for consideration at the time of sentencing of the defendant.
- Have an Advocate accompany you throughout the process.
