An individual who has been victimized by crime often experiences a variety of physical and/or emotional reactions that occur as a result of this trauma. Becoming a crime survivor can create feelings of vulnerability, confusion and isolation.
Often the coping skills previously used to deal with problems may not be adequate in the face of a severe disruptive event, be it a physical assault, home invasion, carjacking, a kidnapping or hostage situation, or robbery. It can be beneficial to reach out for help and support during this time of crisis.
